The Utilities Safety and Operations Fundamentals Certificate provides students with the essential background to begin working safely in utilities construction in entry-level roles. Students learn the basics of construction safety, advanced safety, reading utility prints, locating underground utilities, operating equipment with hands-on labs, and basics of traffic management.

- ENG-0995 Applied College Literacies or appropriate score on English placement test.
- MATH-0955 Beginning Algebra with "C" or higher, or qualified Math placement.
- Completion of CNST-1751 Construction Safety and CNST-1290 Construction Print Reading
- 18 years or older
- Possess a valid Ohio driver's license
- Drug-free
Program Learning Outcomes
- Incorporate safety awareness, principles and practice in every aspect of work and as a way of life.
- Earn OSHA 30 for the Construction Industry Outreach credential.
- Perform basic operational tasks in telecommunications, water, wastewater, and gas distribution/collection utilities systems.
- Describe common managerial and maintenance tasks required in maintaining a utility system.

Recommend UT-2200 Underground Construction I, CNST-2230 Gas Pipeline Systems, CNST-2240 Water and Wastewater Systems, or CNST-2830 Cooperative Field Experience for UT/CNST-XXXX Elective.
MATH-1140, MATH-1141, MATH-1200, MATH-1270, and MATH-1280 can no longer count towards fulfilling the college-level mathematics requirement. These courses were re-classified as developmental mathematics by the state of Ohio in 2016. Tri-C established a 5-year transitioning window for students who had completed these courses prior to 2016 to apply them towards meeting graduation requirements, which expired in Summer 2021. It is highly recommended to see a counselor to determine the appropriate math required for your current major.
