About: Jane Ermlich has wanted to be a nurse since she was 5 years old. She has worked as a nurse since 1988, including time in the intensive care unit. Since 2004 Jane has worked at Tri-C teaching nursing in the lab, in the classroom or doing clinical. She also served as a travel nurse for five years in an emergency room and multiple ICUs on both coasts of the United States.

On the side, she enjoys sewing, cooking, gardening and spending time with her family.

About: Andrea Hudson Smith is a Navy veteran with various nursing experience since 1997. 

At Tri-C, Hudson Smith teaches the Fundamentals of Nursing Concepts and Concepts of Nursing Care for Patients With Acute Unstable and Chronic Conditions II. She also serves on many committees, including the Black American Council and Curriculum Development, and is the chair of the Student Success Committee and the Black Professionals in White Coats.

Hudson Smith has a special interest in addressing barriers to promote student success in nursing education, pharmacology, pathophysiology, chronic disease management and gerontological disease management. Her research projects include “Causes of Medication Errors in Nursing” and “Motivating Hypertensive Black Older Adults’ Engagement in Nutrition-Focused Communication With Primary Care Providers.” Her memberships include the NLN Academy of Nursing Education, American Association of Nurse Practitioners and Ohio League of Nursing and Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society.

She is married to a retired army veteran and has two adult sons and two adult daughters.

About: Diana Kovacic came to Tri-C in 2013 as an assistant professor of nursing. She has been a registered nurse since 2005. Her specialties include pediatrics, public health and nursing education. About: Amy Nelson has nearly three decades of experience working as a registered nurse in areas of her obstetrical expertise, including such units as labor and delivery, high-risk antepartum, postpartum, nursery and NICU. She came to Tri-C as an adjunct professor of nursing in 2004, became an assistant professor of nursing in 2014 and earned tenure in 2019. Nelson teaches early nursing theory and obstetrics on four of the five campuses, including the Brunswick University Center. She also teaches hands-on skills in the clinical setting. Nelson serves on nursing and Collegewide committees, tutoring students, and enjoys volunteering for the College. She lives with her family in Brunswick.

About: Pamela Ngangana is a nursing education specialist who has taught in various nursing schools in the U.S. and abroad. She has been affiliated with Tri-C since 2015.

Her publications include “Intrafamily Stressors Among Adult Siblings Sharing Caregiving for Parents” in the Journal of Advanced Nursing and “CCBN Supports Nursing Students” in the Journal of Black Nurses.

Based on her experience as a foreign nurse, Ngrangana understands the challenges faced by nursing students who are not native English speakers and enjoys helping students navigate the nursing education system. She serves as a mentor and coach for students.

About: Sharon Wasko-Arnold first graduated from nursing school in 1998 from Lorain County Community College. She worked as a medical/surgical nurse at Fairview Hospital and UH Parma Medical Center before going into short-term rehab as a staff nurse and becoming a case manager and MDS nurse. After returning to Cleveland State University for her bachelor's degree in 2008, she started teaching at proprietary schools in LPN and RN programs. She ultimately earned her DNP from Indiana Wesleyan University in December 2020. She served as an adjunct at Tri-C for several years before becoming a full-time faculty member. She has taught theory and clinical in all programs, primarily for first- and second-semester students.

She lives on the southwest side of the county with her husband, Jim, and their dog, Griffy. In her spare time, she enjoys fishing on the lake, gardening and relaxing by the pool.
