Comprehensive introduction to foundational elements, concepts and language of religion, including: faith and reason, myth, rituals, historical doctrines and practices, mysticism and attributes, and study of the Divine.

Study of origin, nature, and meaning of major world religions: Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Daoism, and Confucianism.

REL-2010 Religious Traditions of Western Christianity

3 Credits

A fundamental introduction to sacred texts, historically relevant figures, and liturgical practices central to Christianity beliefs and principles. As the course chronicles the impact of Christianity on reasoning, science, architecture, art and politics, it provides students the ability to engage in construction interreligious dialogues and ethical discussions.

REL-2060 African-American Religious Experience

3 Credits

An exploration of the religious history, culture, and themes of African Americans from the colonial period to the present. Topics include Liberal, Evangelical and Fundamentalist theologies, with particular focus on rituals, music, sacred traditions, and literature. The Social, Civil Rights and Prosperity Movements will be examined as contributing factors to contemporary African American religious life.
