Introductory course that identifies application of construction building drawings used by the Construction Laborer to the construction site. ATLB-1090 Cutting and Burning

Covers the purpose of a fire watch assignment during hot work operations including prescribed safety standards and fire suppression equipment and hazards of torch cutting with respect to fire and chemical dangers. In addition, specialty cutting equipment, petrogen: oxygen/gas and plasma arc cutting equipment will be discussed, demonstrated and applied in shop exercises.

History of concrete, its properties and calculation of material quantities. Site preparation, form layout and installation. Placement and consolidation of concrete, and finishing and curing procedures will be discussed, demonstrated and practiced in field application.

Fundamentals of radiation, how it affects the worker and the importance of recognizing the health hazards associated with it. Methods used to clean contaminated sites and measures that are taken to avoid radiation on jobsites, including energy producing facilities and nuclear plants. ATLB-1240 Work Zone Traffic Technician

Introductory course addressing the duties and responsibilities of the work zone technician on site and the implementation of ODOT traffic control plans. Proper placement of work zone tapers, roadway signs and channeling devices per traffic maintenance drawings and details are included. Also covered are job related environmental hazards and first responder treatments for affected workers. Hands-on application of the outcomes and objectives of this course is an integral component of the class.

ATLB-1250 Asbestos Abatement Worker

Certification course covering the properties and general uses of asbestos including its history and various work classifications used in construction and building maintenance. The different types of respirators and personal protection equipment used for worker protection while working in an asbestos environment is included. In addition the purpose of asbestos containment required by the Environmental Protection Agency EPA and state regulating bodies, the construction of containment units and abatement techniques is a part of this course.

Certification course explaining infection control risk management ICRA that identifies worker hazards, controls and disease transmission, patient risk groups and related hazards resulting from construction and renovation in hospitals and health care facilities. In addition, the fabrication of containment barriers and installation and monitoring of negative air equipment are covered.

Study of scaffolds related to masonry work, mortar components, and materials requirements. Includes concrete properties and ingredients, steps in making concrete, properties of cement, erection and stocking of scaffolds, mortar preparation, and tools required. Extensive guided instruction and practice provided.

Coverage of gas pipeline installations for commercial and residential applications including proper pipe handling, fusion and placement, and site preparation and restoration. Additionally, all safety regulations as prescribed by OSHA(Occupational Safety and Health Administration), MUTCD (Manual On Uniform Traffic Control Devices) and ODOT (Ohio Department of Transportation), for general public, environmental and worker safety will be addressed with demonstration of these procedures and student applications.
