About:  Dr. Calhoun is a dedicated and accomplished professional exemplifying a passion for education and community engagement. Her wealth of experiences in a variety of educational settings include community-based training, preschool education, elementary education and college-level instruction.

Dr. Calhoun’s journey has armed her with a deep understanding of educational theories and practices, equipping her with the ability to translate theoretical knowledge into impactful real-world applications. In the realm of community-based training embracing her pedagogy, “If they don’t get it the way you teach it, teach it the way they will get it” (paraphrase – Ignacio Estrada), Dr. Calhoun has been a driving force in empowering diverse communities through varied education pathways, which includes the Child Development Associate Credential. 

With a rich tapestry of experiences and unwavering dedication to fostering learning environments that are inclusive and conducive to growth, Dr. Calhoun continues to be a beacon of inspiration for those who believe in the transformative power of education.

About: Karen Goulandris joined Tri-C in 2010 as an adjunct instructor and then as a full-time faculty member in 2021. Before coming to Tri-C, she worked in the education field for over 41 years, with experience as a preschool and toddler teacher, music teacher for infants and toddlers and caregiver classes, summer camp coordinator for elementary school children, youth leadership coordinator for teens, robotics instructor for after-school kindergarten through third-grade students and as an instructor and consultant to other early childhood educators.

Goulandris teaches a variety of early childhood and education topics, including Introduction to Child Development, Child Behavior and Guidance, Music and Movement for Young Children, Working With Families and Educational Technology.

Her teaching is enhanced by real-life experiences from her early childhood teaching career. Goulandris enjoys helping shape future professional educators who will join a field she has loved for many years.
